Rail Cargo Hungaria traditionally organises its partner meeting each Autumn, where the management of the company provides information about the events of the previous year, as well as other tasks. This year the event was held on 20 October and the venue was the restaurant of the Palace of Art. Dr. Imre Kovács CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors, managers and experts of RCH met with managers and representatives of the most important business partners. Dr. Imre Kovács's opening speech started the event and the official information provided by the managers of RCH followed.
Rail Cargo Group's structure in short
The Chairman of the Directors gave information about the structure of Rail Cargo Group. As he said, the company' main focus and competence is railway logistics. Complementary cross-border rail business operations are carried out by five business areas within the group. Rail Cargo Logistics connects the transportation companies within the group. Rail Cargo Operator is the company responsible for container and intermodal traffic. Rail Cargo Austria, Rail Cargo Hungaria and Rail Cargo Logistics have competences of classic railway companies. Rental of the Austrian railway wagons is Rail Cargo Wagon's task, while companies belonging to the Technische Service deal with rolling stock maintenance. RCG provides railway-logistic services to its clients in 18 countries across the North Sea, Black Sea and the Mediterranean. The internalisation of the group is also indicated in the fact that the headquarters of certain areas are not exclusively in Vienna. So, for example, the headquarters of operator companies is in Prague, Rail Cargo Carrier manages RCC companies already present in 9 countries from Budapest.
When discussing everyday tasks of the RCH, Dr. Imre Kovács talked about how the condition of the railway track determines the quality of the service provided by our company, and track closures cause delays lasting for several days. He added that the migrant crisis also made the railway transport more difficult to a large extent, since the trains transporting the migrants had priority over freight trains.
Current issues regarding operation
RCH's Operational Manager, Ottó Horváth mentioned that the average life span of the company's freight wagons is above 30 years, which calls for an actualization of the company's wagon strategy. With regards to the traction activity, he emphasised that RCH carries out 40% of electring traction via 25 Taurus locomotives and the rest is rented mainly from MÁV-START. Diesel traction is fully carried out by MÁV-START. He also mentioned that an electronic travel documentation started between Rail Cargo Hungaria and Rail Cargo Austria. He said he hoped more and more clients would join our company in this electronic administration. The manager also talked about RCH's participation on preparing the introduction of EVAER, which they plan to implement based on a sample taken from NAV and EKAER.
Regarding the future tasks, they mentioned that a so-called dynamic scale which senses the heat of the wheels and the axle load shall be introduced by the end of the year in 28 places of the MÁV network. The facilities are running on a test basis even now. He also mentioned that the new EU Custome Code entering into force in May 2016 shall cause involve the renewal of several licenses of the company.
Business achievements and aims
Gábor Józan, the Commercial Director of the company provided information about the Key Account Management system, which was launched on 1 January. The aim of the reorganisation is to achieve a higher rate of client satisfaction. The Director subsequently talked about the impacts significantly affecting the annual traffic, such as the Ukranian crisis, the stopping of construction of M4 motorway on track closures and the migrant crisis.
Concerning the future tasks he emphasised that what needs to be done is to update the current commercial agreements according to the current legislation and ownership expectations. He also talked about the renewed E-Freight system, which shall be at the users' disposal from the first quarter of 2016 optimised both for mobiles and tablets.
With regards to change in fee and transport fee prices he said they shall be influenced by the increase in prices purchased by the RCH, as well as by the changes in the euro exchange rate also affects the pricing of RCH. The company is planning to increase the prices concerning wagon-load traffics, empty private wagons and intermodal transport units.
