Company history

Under the name Rail Cargo Hungaria Zrt. the market leading Hungarian rail freight company entered a new era of its development in March 2010. The new name expresses the results of the development which opens a door to trustworthily, cost-effectively and environment friendly optimize the customer service-chain of the company, endeavoring to strategic partnership. An energetically completed improvement and modernization preceded the name change after the privatization of MÁV Cargo in year 2008. 

MÁV Cargo Árufuvarozási Zrt. (MÁV Cargo Goods Transport Private Limited Company) was established 1^st January 2006 by Magyar Államvasutak Zrt. (Hungarian State Railways Private Limited Company) outsourcing its goods transporting activities. MÁV Cargo Zrt. achieved a market leading position in Hungary by its extended and quality services. It increased the revenues and improved the efficiency. In May 2007, MÁV Zrt. and MÁV Vagyonkezelő Zrt. (MÁV Trustee Private Corporation) published a call for proposals in the frameworks of a public two-round tender for the liquidation of the total equity stake held by MÁV Cargo Árufuvarozási Zrt. This process closed when the final privatisation agreement was signed in December 2008. At that point, Austrian state-owned Rail Cargo Austria AG became the new owner of MÁV Cargo. The Hungarian company became an important and esteemed member of Europe's third largest rail logistics company, the Rail Cargo Austria Group.  

After the privatization MÁV Cargo restructured its organization, optimized its routes and its wagon management together with the parent company, developed its own traction capacity and modernized its informatics system. As a result of the radical reorganization, it drafted the new brand values, a new mission and a fresh vision. As of 1^st March 2010, the company continues its activity under the new name Rail Cargo Hungaria Zrt.

Briefly about Rail Cargo Austria AG

RCA is the freight forwarding subsidiary of the Austrian public railway company, one of the most successful rail transport companies in Europe, and has been the majority owner of MÁV Cargo Zrt. since December 2008. The business policy of the Austrian company focuses on clients, and it improves its services paying constant attention to its partners' expectations. The company performs logistics and transport assignments offering a comprehensive variety of services. Its subcontractors, logistics hubs, terminals and the strong network of service railways make the execution of dispatching, storing, loading and termination optimal worldwide. According to the company's expectations, its joint forces with MÁV Cargo will bring about a market expansion in the direction of Central Eastern Europe.
